How To Hire A Professional Landscaper

23 Aug 2017

Whether you are embarking on a home or commercial landscaping project, you need to work with the best. Professional landscapers are a dime a dozen, so it’s important to find one that you trust, and who will do your property justice.

Here’s how to hire a professional landscaper who won’t compromise your vision:

Do your research

Look online to see which companies operate in your area and browse their website. Read reviews and see what other people are saying about them. If a company has mostly positive reviews, they’re probably very good. Additionally, ask around and see who your friends have used for their landscaping needs because sometimes word-of-mouth is the most ideal way to find a landscaper. You trust your friends so you’ll probably be more inclined to work with a professional landscaper that they’ve already worked with.

Ask questions

When you’ve narrowed down your search, it’s time to contact companies directly and ask questions. The more you ask, the more you’ll get a sense of what the company offers and what they’ll be like if you hire them. Ask the following:

  1. How many years have you been in business?

  2. What certificates and accreditations do you have?

  3. When can you visit my property to take an estimate and is that estimate free?

  4. How soon can you start?

  5. How long will the project take?

  6. Can you outline the process from start to finish?

  7. Who is on your team?

  8. Can you provide a quote?

  9. What are the payment terms and what methods of payment do you accept?

  10. Do you know the bylaws in my area and will you be able to follow them? (You can find local bylaws online)

Compare and contrast

Now that you’ve spoken with different landscapers and asked your questions, it’s time to comparethem. No two professional landscaping companies are alike so examine their previous work, payment terms, certificates, experiences and quotes. You’ll also need to compare what you’ll be getting for your money. One company may charge less and give you less, whereas another may charge more and give you exactly what you want.

Go with your gut

After all the analysis, quotes and reviews of each professional landscaper you’re looking at, if there’s one company that stands out, use them. Trust your own instincts and if a company seems like they’re the right fit for you, they probably are.
