Important Notice from Peel Exterior Maintenance Inc. also dba Peel Landscape Depot (“Peel”) Re: COVID-19 & Our Commitment to Our Staff, Customers, Suppliers and Communities

Updated May 25, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic raises critical and unique issues for all organizations, including Peel.

In March 2020, provincial announcements ordered all non-essential businesses in Ontario to close. At that time, and based on the provincial government's list of essential businesses which would be exempt from this order, and after consultation with Peel’s external general counsel, it was determined that Peel qualified as an essential business and would be permitted to operate.

Subsequently, the provincial government has made a number of announcements, including:

  • On May 1, 2020 that: "...these businesses will be permitted to begin operations on Monday, May 4 at 12:01a.m.: Garden centres and nurseries with curbside pick-up and delivery only; lawn care and landscaping;..."
  • On May 6, 2020 that: "As early as Friday, May 8 at 12:01 a.m., garden centres and nurseries will be able to open for in-store payment and purchases, operating under the same guidelines as grocery stores and pharmacies. Hardware stores and safety supply stores will be permitted to open for in-store payment and purchases as soon as 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 9. On Monday, May 11 at 12:01 a.m., retail stores with a street entrance can begin offering curbside pickup and delivery..."

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Peel has given considerable thought to the current environment and, after careful consideration has ultimately determined that it will continue to operate, albeit in a reduced capacity, because it believes it can do so safely. We would like to take this opportunity to assure every one of our stakeholders that safety remains at the forefront of our thinking, especially as we monitor and adapt to the changing environment brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an effort to maintain the safety of our employees, customers, and all other stakeholders, we have implemented precautionary measures proactively as well as in response to the latest health guidelines and recommendations provided by federal, provincial and municipal authorities, which include, in part:

  • Staying informed of the latest recommendations in respect of COVID-19; to this end, we have also posted in high traffic areas throughout our organization select notices prepared and circulated by the Public Health Agency of Canada;
  • Implementing and enforcing new social distancing protocols;
  • Significantly reducing onsite staffing levels in further support of our commitment to social distancing;
  • Initially closing our physical locations (depots); at the time of this update, Peel has re-opened its Georgetown and Mississauga depots to provide curbside pickup and to permit select customers onsite access to its showroom and onsite displays (with advance notice so as to arrange for onsite access in a safe manner). Separately, the Company continues to deliver and fulfill all orders received via its online store, by phone or by e-mail;
  • Rethinking and revising our operating procedures to restrict and better control the flow of people and goods into and out of our property in a manner that satisfies existing social distancing recommendations;
  • Cancelling our annual Contractors’ Day event, initially scheduled for March 25, 2020; and
  • Keeping open lines of communication with all employees and other stakeholders in an effort to stay informed about, and address, challenges attributable to our changing environment.

To all of our customers affected by our in-person / onsite restrictions, please note that we remain fully committed to supporting you as best we can, to providing guidance in areas of expertise and, as such, we look forward to continuing our dialogue over the phone or via email (please find our contact information below).

Furthermore, Peel's spring and summer exterior maintenance division has commenced operations, though, Peel has revised its usual operating procedures to adhere to the province's latest recommendations on how to operate safely given the current environment.

This is not business as usual. The situation in respect of COVID-19 is rapidly evolving and we will continue to monitor, and act on, new information as it becomes available. You will be informed of all business developments via our social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook) and our website (www.PeelLandscapeDepot.com).

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and we at Peel will continue to do what we can to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in the communities we love and serve. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time, and sincerely hope that you, your families and your businesses remain safe and healthy!

On behalf of the entire team at Peel,

Rick Fallis
